Rest stop

This was my Sunday afternoon tea. I'm using this post to introduce two things, really: the copy of Aesthetic Magazine I got in the mail the other day, and this chocolate chip cookie-cake thing in a cup.

This is great if you've got a just-baked big-fat chocolate chip cookie craving, but don't have the time to make a whole batch (or if you're on some torturous portion control diet).
  • Melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • Add 1 egg yolk
  • Add 3 drops of vanilla extract and combine.
  • And then a pinch of salt...
  • And 1/4 cup of AP flour...
  • Then a whole load of chocolate chips (depending on your preferred chocolate to cookie ratio. I like mine high).
  • Add this to a large mug or bowl, depending on how cakey you want it (I recommend a wide dish of some sort) and microwave for 60 seconds

Aesthetic is a magazine edited by Michelle, filled with illustrations by Phillipa and Katie as well as articles by quite a few familiar bloggers. If you like the look of it, follow the Aesthetic blog.

Surprise! Look familiar? I did a feature for the magazine where I rambled on a bit about my Eurotrip (which was a while ago now, but it's been a couple of months since I wrote it).

Yes, I'm aware it is now Tuesday. I've been busy, and this post is cutting into my sleeping time - I'll regret it in the morning!

Final push

Well I'm back at uni now (four days in and I'm completely exhausted). One more term (and a whole load of exams) till summer starts! I have something a little extra to look forward to, because...

I'm going to the USA (for the first time ever) in December! A week in NYC (thus the guidebook), and then the two weeks over Christmas with my aunt and uncle in North Carolina and Ohio (I have been promised roadtrips). I'm particularly excited about the prospect of a white Christmas. Any tips/suggestions for NYC in particular?.

Martin Place during golden hour, as seen through YY's sunnies.

It has been more autumnal than spring-like after the couple of warm days we had last week. But it's meant to be 27 degrees tomorrow, so time to ditch the grandpa cardigan and bring out the dresses (well, until next week, when it gets cold again).

Biennale: MCA and Pier 2/3

It was a lovely day today, so I decided to go see a bit more of the Biennale before it ends this weekend. I'd already been to see Cockatoo Island in the mid-year break. I was all alone, but it was nice weather for it.

What I wore. Hooray for (blindingly pale) bare legs weather! Shirt was my mum's, skirt from Glassons, boots Doc Martens and Fjallraven backpack.

View of the Harbour from Circular Quay station. Not bad, huh?

First stop: MCA. A lot of the exhibits were the same as the ones I saw when I went last time, but here are some that didn't make it into that post.

I think this one was new. The coloured rectangles kept flipping, like flip-clocks.

This was here last time, but I don't think I got good pictures of it. I really like it, it's spooky - it kind of reminded me of that scene in Toy Story with all the broken and mutant toys...

Next stop: Pier 2/3.

Who needs the Seine or the Thames?

Pier 2/3 is apparently the last undeveloped pier on Walsh Bay. I think the others are theatres, or homes of very rich people.

There were only three large-scale artworks in here, this was the only one I liked.

I walked back to Circular Quay and decided to reward all that walking with Mad Mex (am I ever not craving nachos?)

FNO Sydney '12

Went to check out FNO on Thursday night since I really enjoyed it last year. We were very unstrategic about our night though, and there seemed to be more people this year, so we didn't get a haul of freebies like last time because everywhere had run out. Oh well! There was summer in the air (ooh how poetic) so it was nice strolling around outside.

This is going on the shortlist for Most Awkward Picture of Jane 2012. I used to be terrified of people dressed up in suits like this (animal, cartoon character, etc) so this picture is proof of having overcome that. Go me!

How clever of stores to lure people in with chocolate covered bananas.

The one really overexposed photobooth picture we took. The funny thing is, you almost don't realise that there is a person-dressed-as-a-Chubby-stick in the picture with us until you see their hand on my shoulder.

We ended the night in McDonalds laughing ourselves silly over a massive pile of fries. Typical.

Oh hi

What can I say, I really paid for my Olympics obsession when it came to exam time. That's my excuse for only 2 posts in August - a record low, I think! Anyway, I'll make up for it, but for now, here's what I wore today to catch up with friends. It was gloriously hot, so I could wear an outfit worth posting; I'm pretty sure you guys have seen the entirety of my winter wardrobe.

Tee and Cake tee via Topshop, skirt from Glassons. You might remember the t-shirt from a few posts ago. I pounced on this skirt in autumn but I don't remember why I wanted it so much, it's a little impractical.

I'm glad I've got a week and a half off now to enjoy the weather. A lot of my friends still have uni, though, so I'll be laughing at their pain while crying about having no one to hang out with.
