2012

Well, that's another year almost over. I had my ups and downs, but on the whole I had a great year (a definite improvement on 2011). So here's a bit of a recap.

It started off with the best summer ever. Hanging out and going to the beach and... driving to IKEA (yes this is a prominent memory of that summer).

Untitled And then there was the Europe trip in February, which was a total dream come true.

When it was time to go back to uni I was pretty miserable. I think I cried every day for two weeks in the beginning of term... but in the end it was a pretty good year for me uni-wise as well.

Had a great 19th birthday (oh god, 20 is creeping closer and closer).

Made time for some fun in between all the uni work.

Most worn clothes of the winter.

Got really caught up in the Olympics and fell behind in work.

At the end of August, it felt like summer would never come.

Somehow managed to drag myself through exams with the help of cookies.

Summer did finally come and I got to see New York City! And other places in the States, which I'll tell you all about soon.

I'm flying out tomorrow... pretty sad to be leaving. So that means I'm going to be spending New Year's Eve on a plane - and since I'm crossing the date line I don't think I'm technically going to be ringing in the new year at all. So that should be fun. Hope you guys have a good NYE, and bring on 2013!

Merry Christmas!

Holiday shops at Bryant Park, back in New York.

Just popping in to say Merry Christmas! I'm in Ohio now and while it's not snowing, there is snow on the ground - that counts, right? I'm watching The Santa Clause while I write this up to get into the mood. Hope you all have a great holiday!

More from NYC

This is what I got up to in the second half of the week. I had much better weather! Pictures in black and white this time, because I'm so bad with editing on my laptop. More pictures and full colour when I get back to Sydney!

Visited the Guggenheim on Tuesday morning. I love the setup! Although the exhibition was Picasso: Black and White and I don't really like Picasso (sorry).

Afterwards I went for a stroll along the reservoir in Central Park.

Then, the Met in the afternoon. The place is huge and you'd need an entire day (probably more) to get through everything. I spent about three hours in there before I started getting bored and tired.

On Wednesday morning I checked out Grand Central station.

Then Top of the Rock at sunset after some 5th avenue shopping. The view was amazing. I can't wait to show you all the pictures I took.

On Thursday I went down to see Lady Liberty herself and took a walk through the Financial District.

Afterwards I popped up to West Village to get some cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. This area is so lovely - definitely where I'd choose to live in Manhattan.

Strolled up to the High Line, which was better than I expected.

Chelsea Market, which was cool, but I didn't buy anything.

On Friday morning I went to the East Village, which is a neighbourhood I liked as well.

In the afternoon I went to Herald Square to do one last bit of shopping, and then I went up the Empire State Building. The views from Top of the Rock were better, though!

Unfortunately I didn't leave Manhattan at all. Oh well, there's always next time! Overall, New York was a fantastic experience. The next two weeks are family time; right now I'm actually at my aunt's place in North Carolina. I'm looking forward to a bit of a break, I'm feeling pretty drained. Will keep you guys updated!

Hello from NYC

Yes yes, I'm still alive! I got in on Friday but wasted the entire day because my luggage had been delayed and I didn't want to miss the person who delivered it (as you can imagine I just stayed home and stressed all day and of course it came at 5.30pm). It's day 4 and I'm completely exhausted and haven't done half the things I'd scheduled to do. I'm pretty jetlagged - can't sleep at night, but really tired during the day. Anyway, here's a picture from each of the things I've managed to do so far. I'll post all the pictures I took when I get home, I'm really slow with editing pictures on this computer.

MoMA on Saturday. I was in and out of there pretty fast, I'm afraid it may have been a bit wasted on me.

Walked down 5th Ave to see the Rockefeller tree. It was completely packed - my fault for going on a Saturday.

Kept walking to Bryant Park holiday market. I didn't actually buy anything, I mainly just hung around for the Christmas atmosphere.

Then I went on to Times Square. I know people consider it to be the worst of all tourist traps, but I love it, it's crazy!

On a gloomy, rainy Sunday I went down to SOHO for a bit of shopping*. I love all the buildings there.

When I was too tired to walk anymore, I caught the subway up to Union Square to check out the Christmas markets.

Today I spent the entire day at the Museum of Natural History. I wasn't really in the mood to do anything after that (I think my feet started hurting at 1pm).

*I know I said I was going to go shopping a lot, but so far I've only bought two shirts and a pair of jeans. I'm trying, I'm trying!

I have so much I want to pack in in the next four days, but I don't think I'll be able to get to everything. Early night for me tonight, gotta get my energy up! (Also, it was so warm today - 16C - I'm feeling seriously ripped off. I wanted snow.)

Summer so far

This is a scheduled post - right now, I should be on a plane halfway through a monster 15 hour flight (let's hope I have an aisle seat). I thought I'd do a roundup of what I've done so far these holidays.

Visited Hurricane's in Harbourside on Thursday. Why haven't I been here before? The ribs are amazing as long as you don't think about how much they look like human ribs.

Gelato Messina, almost killed me. I think I had a gelato hangover the next morning.

IKEA on a very hot Saturday in my favourite dress // Why we really go to IKEA.

A dip in Jenny's pool afterwards // Festive nails! Sadly, they're chipped now.

Pancakes on the Rocks on Monday.

Outfits on Monday and Tuesday.

Pizza on Bondi Beach on Tuesday.

Just chilling while my friends point out people's boob jobs // Beach hair (and a sunglasses tan, oops).

Haha, tricked you into a post of phone pictures! I have acquired an iPhone - meant to be my mum's but she's letting me take it overseas so I've been having lots of fun with the camera.

Hopefully everything is going to plan for future me (or present me when this is published...). I'll see you in New York!

Packing light

I'm leaving for the USA on Thursday, and my anxiety has overtaken my excitement (it was inevitable). I'm going to be in NYC for a week, and then visting relatives in North Carolina and Ohio. Anyway, I love packing, and this time I'm armed with skills from my trip in Feburary, as well as a rough idea of how much I'll need to wear in a winter much colder than ours.

Obviously, I'm also taking a big warm coat and things like underwear and socks. I'm packing very light this time around - technically, I'll be wearing half of this on the plane - because my first stop is NYC and shopping is definitely on my itinerary (it may or may not be scheduled for every single day).

I'm probably not going to disappear for the next month, seeing as I'm taking my laptop with me this time around. I'm not sure if I'll be in the mood to blog though, we'll see!
