Snapped and sorted

I spent the last week of my summer tidying all the picture folders on my computer. I ended up deleting 10+ gigs of photos (which was really hard because I'm so sentimental) and putting the rest into folders ordered by date. Then I backed it all up on two separate devices, because I would die if I lost all my photos.

I also printed off more than 200 photos from the last 7 years so I have physical, tangible copies. I'd been thinking of making one of those photobooks, but they're expensive, so I just did it the traditional way (it's only 7c a print at Officeworks!). I'd been meaning to do this for the last two years, so it felt good to finally have it sorted!

Yes I am alive! I'm still getting into the swing of the new semester so I haven't been doing much that's not uni-related, hence the old-ish news. Right now, the worst noise in the world is the sound of my alarm in the morning. I'm definitely not one of those "I'm glad to be back" people - the most crushing kind of holiday boredom is preferable to pre-assessment stress, in my opinion.

  1. I love it!!! Need to sort my photos out as well. Making nice albums is such a good way of spending time!

  2. I don't know how you did that, deleting 10 GB would feel like having an elephant sit on you. I wouldn't bring myself to do it. (It takes so much effort to delete a "dodgy" photo already - who knows when you need it?) I've also been meaning to print out a photo, but never got round to it, maybe next break. :( I'm not glad to be back either. Good luck with uni!

  3. Ah your photobook looks amazing Jane! I really must organise my photos in a similar way soon, I'm getting rid of my laptop in a week or two so I need to find a good place to print ALL of my snaps at a reasonable price! Hope you're settling back into Uni okay! x

  4. Whoa, I love your photo book, and nice flip action going on :)

You are so smart to do that, have a back up for the photos, I would probably go into a coma if I lost all my photos, I need to do that soon! I should have learned my lesson already especially since I lost all my family holiday photos in high school once upon a time.

Have a great week Jane :)

  5. I am also not the type that is excited to go back to school. Especially the first week of "How was your break?" and after awhile I just stop answering that question.

I love the little gif you made. I really like printing out photos as well, though I don't get a chance to do it often. And I can't believe you had the guts to delete so many pictures!! I'm awful at getting rid of stuff...so I just shove everything into my external drive and pray that there will always be enough room. It also doesn't help that I am shooting in RAW format now so the files are infinitely bigger - sigh xD

  7. I have to do this. It's been on my to-do list forever and I just cannot get myself to do it. It's seems so daunting because I have so many pictures. But I do want to make themed photobooks and scrapbooks and albums. I'm inspired by your post. I must follow suit!

  10. This is such a good idea and something I should probably do, it's so much nicer having actual copies of pictures. Maybe that's something I'll add onto my list of procrastination to avoid life. Hope university has been treating you kindly so far

  15. Ah, I've been wanting to print my photos like this for so long now! Sadly I'm really picky, so the prospect of editing them all is making me put it off...

  16. Wow! I'm really impressed you manage to sort out all your photos. I can't get myself to start organizing my files, I'm a bit sentimental about my photos too, ha ha. Good luck with uni! I'm feeling a similar thing; classes are going to end in two-ish weeks and I've become a bum..

    Don't lose your momentum!

  19. OMG I don't think I'd be able to delete that many photos... I'd really love to print some of my favourite photographs too though! Sadly it's way too expensive for my budget at the moment :( Last time I printed some for my pen pals it was 0,25€ a photo ugh.

  22. ha so clever of you! i've been meaning to do a back up of my pictures for ages, but i'm just so lazy. You'd think that having had 3 laptops dying on me and losing at least 10 yrs of pictures in the process would have taught me a lesson #hopeless case

  29. I am such a hoarder when it comes to digital photos! My computer is screaming at me to free-up some space, but I never have the heart to delete pictures. I'll have to resort to getting hundreds of prints done so I can have tangible copies too. So worth it!

  30. I can't even delete that much photos if I were you.. i would regret it later but if I have to, I just do it.
I was thinking about making a photobook as well but I'm not creatives so I just forget about it. Yours are so pretty!
Love your blog and following you now. ^_^

  38. I've been thinking of doing this for the last three years or so, because I'm running out of space on my external hard drive... (I always take my pictures as RAW and then I end up keeping all of those files "just in case"... it's terrible).

  39. Just wandered round some blogs and found yours - I'm so glad I did! Your photos are so so lovely and this is such a great idea. My photo albums on my laptop are just a mess and I've been meaning to sort through them. I'm the exact same when it comes to being super sentimental and not being able to delete anything or throw anything away... It brings out the hoarder in me, haha. So congrats on 10 GB of photos, that's an amazing feat! I guess now that it's Spring, it's a good time to do a big Spring clean haha. I also love your photo album, I'd love to be able to get round to printing loads of photos off and having physical copies. Seeing your post has definitely encouraged me to do this!

Good luck with being back at uni!

    Love your blog! :-)

  42. That gif is so "Harry Potter" ahah! Really great. I think you had a great idea. In the digital age, see physical things become rare. And it is different, right? it's so nice to have albums to peruse. The Remembrall, xx.

  43. Love the gif. Quick question, did you make the photoalbum or did you purchase it? I have been finding it so hard to find a decent one which doesn't have that space next to the photos (the lined part).
