A break in the usual stream of superficial posts for something important. Three weeks ago, more than 200 Nigerian girls were abducted from school, and since then, an extremist group has claimed responsibility and stated their intent to sell the girls into slavery. It's a horrific attack on the girls, their families and community, and access to education. I know I don't usually talk about current events on this blog. But there has been such a lack of coverage and emphasis by mainstream news here in Australia; it's definitely not on the same level as what it would be if this had happened in Europe or America. Internet campaigning has been called "slacktivism" but in this case it's been so important in getting people informed. If you have a minute, here's a petition calling for action you that can sign and share, and if nothing else, at least raise awareness.
