Midi, stripes

Untitled

UNIQLO top / Topshop skirt / Dune boots.

I bought this skirt last year thinking that it would go with so many things in my wardrobe but I was wrong. It looks really matronly with my button-downs and just looks awkward with half my t-shirts. If I were handy with a sewing machine I'd put some pockets in and take it up above the knees but alas I am not, so this is me trying to make it work for the Night Noodle Markets last Sunday with my other breton top (which always gets thrown over for its navy-striped sister).

  1. I like the skirt!! I think it will be awesome in winter with lots of layers - sort of Japanese style.

    Love the stripes!!!

  3. Is it a pull-on skirt (elastic waistband?) I would try seating it high, low, in the middle, and then finding tops that might work with it (I'm thinking cropped.) Also how bad is it if you just roll the waistband/hike the skirt up? I think what's giving you the matronly vibe is where it's sitting on your waist and how it's going over your hips, play with the waist a bit before you chop! I hope that helps out somehow. I personally want to style your skirt with Nikes and a cropped shirt or tuck a long sleeved v-neck top and look very ballerina-graceful with black flats a la Audrey Hepburn.

Hope you find a combo that works! Keep hacking at it! :)

    1. It is an elastic waistband, hm might try rolling it up! Don't know if that'll make it too tight for me though. I think it would work with a cropped top but I don't own any and I loathe to buy new clothes just to make an existing item work. Thanks for the ideas :)

    1. Thanks! Ah I wouldn't alter it if I wanted to, tailors are too expensive in Sydney and I don't know how myself!

  5. I think you've done well styling it! Three-quarter length stripe shirts look good with almost anything and midi skirts are so classy! Wish I could pull them off too!

    1. Thansk! As a rule I shouldn't pull off midi skirts but hey worth a try.

  6. The combination looks great! Maybe a belt will make it look less matronly. I've been eyeing midi length skirts too, however I feel that they make me look frumpy which is probably due to my height.

  7. I absolutely love midi skirts but I agree, it can feel so awkward to pull off when you're not exactly 6ft tall! Yours looks nice with that top though, I love the multicoloured stripes :)

    1. Yeah I think it might partly be to do with my height, I'm a good 7 inches off 6 ft haha.

    1. Ah thanks :) Yeah they need a bit of extra thought, unlike black skinny jeans etc.

    1. I'm pretty short too, I think the main thing is to find good shoes to go with it!
