uniqlo silk shirt
uniqlo silk shirt
UNIQLO silk shirt / watch c/o Daniel Wellington*.

I made my friends buy this shirt for me in the US last year but hadn't worn it until last weekend, oops. I didn't realise it would be so sheer, and that coupled with the fact that it's white/cream and silk (i.e. hard to clean) has made me too afraid to wear it. I'm still not sure what the etiquette for sheer shirts is but I went for the yes-I-know-you-can-see-my-bra route which probably is only okay for a drinks-with-the-girls sort of context. I will probably want to get a camisole to wear underneath for all other situations, although I hate buying new clothes just to make existing clothes work.

Also I really should get myself a hip print to replace that one of the three picnicking bears shouldn't I? My parents chose it decorating my room when I was little...

  1. Love it! I mean it's so feminine and lovely, but I can never sport a seethrough :(((((((( I've got no guts!

    1. Thanks :) It took me a while to talk myself into wearing it like this haha.

  2. Yeah! I am always so unsure with my sheer shirts, I have one with really lovely cold shoulders that always want to sear but find it difficult to style. I like this though! It's not too much :)

    1. I feel like they look right on everyone else but when I try it I feel a bit self-conscious? Even though I probably wouldn't give someone else a second glance.

  3. Your cute bear picture is fine. I think its cute hanging in your room. I haven't managed to try any Uniqlo clothing yet. I've been on the hunt of cotton blouses. Just because every blouse I have now is already sheer. I just want a nice flatting blouse without flashing my bra about! So I've collected quite an array of coloured camisoles.

P.S you're starting to look more relaxed in front of the camera now. :D

    1. Hmm I think the pricing for the Uniqlo shirts here in Aus is a bit steep taking into consideration the exchange rate!

Haha thanks! Might be because I took these in my room with no chance on anyone walking in on me.

    1. Yeah, this is the only sheer thing I own and I probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd known!

  5. I used to worry about see throughs but then I thought well you know what, if you don't want to see me wearing one maybe you shouldn't go out in the 40 degree weather!

Seriously though. You're so pretty you'll look awesome in anything.

  6. That's such a lovely shirt! I know what you mean though about how annoying it is to have to buy clothes just to make what you've got work- sometimes it's just necessary though! I find sheer clothing hard to wear, it makes me really self conscious, but I always think it looks so good on other people.

    1. Yeah, I guess buying a $15 camisole to make a $50 shirt work is fair enough!

  7. It looks good on you! Also you said "I hate buying new clothes just to make existing clothes work." and I totally agree with that! Hahahaha I just love clothes that can be comfortable and beautiful just the way it is haha

  8. I love shirts, but have that same dilemma with the sheerness - even a black shirt seems a bit too see-through! Also your hair is amazing!

    1. I find most shirts that drape nicely in this way are sheer! Thanks :)

  9. Would a nude bra be better? I get what you mean by not having the contrast-y look all the time. I would try maybe a nude cami with a shelf bra if that's comfortable? It might be too warm though.

    1. I tried it with my nude bra, but it's not exactly my skin colour so it still showed up under the shirt - I figured I'd just try and make it obvious that I was making it obvious haha. I'm going to go to Uniqlo tomorrow to check out the Airism camis, although I'm not sure the built in bra ones will work for me! We'll see!

    2. I understand. The way you have it here IMO is acceptable but then again you can see yourself in all lighting conditions much better than I can. I'm still not exactly sure how to play the light shirt / dark bra thing--I think it's more of attitude with that situation, really :) confidence that YES hi I have boobs.

  11. That shirt looks so good on you! I totally agree with the buying-new-things sentiment though, since I can't really pull off the visible bra look it makes kinda makes me wish companies would just sell them together...

  12. That sheer blouse looks good on you! Aslong you wear
something underneath it is fine c: Xx

  13. I don't think that the shirt is too transparent. It's fine to wear it like that. The bear pic is so cute though!

  14. I love those kind of blouses so much but then I never wear them because I always tend to think everyone's going to notice. Plus in the office it wouldn't be very appropriate (I get weird looks when I wear bold lips, can't imagine what would happen with a blouse like that).
Anyway you look really nice with that blouse :)

    1. Yeah it might not be okay at the office! Thanks :)

  16. Hi, Jane! Amber here. (Formerly loveamberx but I moved to a new blog recently.) This whole post is so so great. Literally captures every struggle I've ever had with sheer clothing. (I just tend to not wear the shirt anymore, which I know is terrible.) On a different note, UNIQLO just opened where I live and I'm so in love. Great posts as always!

  24. I agree with Anita, it isn't too sheer, so I think you are fine! Plus the way you paired it works perfectly. In fact, it balances perfectly with this basic classic look. If you are a bit nervous though, you can always pair a lacy cropped cami underneath or a solid bandeau.
