Packing...

I leave on Monday (!) and this trip has been crazy hard to pack for. I've become really good at packing for the dead of winter - temperatures below 10C, a bit rainy, maybe a bit snowy. But this time, we're going from Argentina, to Brazil, to Peru, and then to the US - summer to winter. My usual rule is to halve the amount of clothes I want to take but I've regressed and I'm packing quite heavily. This is an extremely optimistic and stylised view of the contents of my suitcase:

The main thing I've been agonising about is what shoes to pack. I'm being sentimental but I want to take my Dr Martens because I've always worn them overseas, but I'd expect they'd be too hot to wear in Argentina and Brazil at least. My other options are my Nike Frees, but they're not waterproof, and my Chelsea boots, which are good for city walking but not rough terrain (and wouldn't be good in the rain either). The struggle is real, I know...

I've been pretty busy running around doing last-minute things, including scheduling up a bunch of posts so you guys won't miss me too much... although I'm betting you guys will be too busy in December to be doing that much blog reading anyway! So this is the last you'll hear from me in real-time until I get back in January. Hope everyone has an amazing December!

  1. I always find shoes to be one of the hardest things to decide - just because there are so many variables; the what you think you'll do versus what you actually end up doing. Hope you have an incredible time! x

    1. That is so true! Also because I can deal with a little discomfort when it comes to clothes, but uncomfortable/inappropriate shoes are the worst.

  5. Sounds great! I hope you'll have a fabulous trip:)

On my last trip I packed pretty well. I did bring a pair of shoes I didn't use(they were too small in the warm weather), but other than that only one shirt and one nightgown (or it could have been a dress or something like that). And I made a list after of what I'll need for a similar trip next time. So hopefully my days of overpacking are over… ;)

  7. So jealous that you get to travel quite often! I know you're headed to California right? If you're only headed for SoCal, trust me, it isn't even that cold xD

    1. We're headed to San Fran too which is the only place I probably need a coat for - I was thinking of going without the coat but my friends informed me this was a bad idea haha.

    2. Yeah, I would bring a coat! San Fran gets so chilly, which I wish would happen in Southern California as well D:

    3. Noted! I don't mind chilly weather but this time it's a whole coat for one city haha.

  9. Packing's always a challenge, especially for different climates! My motto's to always be prepared, even though it's probably not the most efficient thing haha. Hope you have an amazing time :)

    1. True true I'd rather have another kilo in my suitcase than be reallly without something I need. Thanks Mani :)

  10. I know the struggle! I feel for you. Roma Boots does these cute Doc Marten style rain boots, although they probably won't arrive to you in time for your holiday. Don't let the packing get into your head too much - whatever you need, you can probably buy when you're there. This is so exciting!

    1. Yeah I keep forgetting I can actually buy things where I'm going haha!

  11. Wow it's come around so fast, I'm so excited for you! I wouldn't know how to pack for it either to be honest. I usually overpack when I'm only going to one climate nevermind two. Hmmm you could pack some good walking boots so you can use them for America and any trekking in Brazil, then maybe some flip flops for the beach? I'm already looking forward to your posts from your trip! Have an AMAZING time and stay safe! :) x

  15. Ah, I'm always terrible at packing - either too much or too little. But it looks like you've got it all squared away! Have tons of fun on your trip. I can't wait to see photos when you're back! :)

  16. Have a fun trip in South America Jane :D
I think you should always pack up some trainers because
they are usually the most comfy shoes! Xx

  17. I hope you have a wonderful trip Jane! And the shoe struggle IS real - I remember going for a WEEK to Fuerteventura and bringing 6 pairs of shoes - needless to say my boyfriend, who had to help me lug my giant suitcase around, was not amused! Can't wait to hear about all your adventures and see your lovely photos when you return!

  18. How much fun... your trip will be fantastic. The opposite weather dilema is real, but you'll get through it. Layers layers layers! Your itinerary is full of places I've never been and I can't wait to hear about it. Merry Christmas!

  20. When are you touching down in LA?? :)

  21. Must confess, I'm feeling quite jealous you're doing so many different places in a row. Although I should not complain! Just returned from Amsterdam and already have a trip to Berlin booked for a few months from now. #FirstWorldProblems . But the struggle with shoes is very real. Going to Amsterdam I thought 'I always like to walk as much as possible when I'm travelling, so I'll take trainers.' But then I remembered none of my tennis shoes are waterproof because they're running shoes. I have Chelsea boots but the heel is a bit too much for me to walk for over 5 hours a day. I ended up taking these over the ankle suede boots that I knew would fare well in the rain (mainly because I've already worn them so much that the suede is no longer smooth) and they wouldn't be as uncomfortable to walk in for hours. I did end up walking so much that even the boots couldn't save me and it rained very little so I could have taken the Nike trainers. But oh well, such is life :p

  23. Hope you manage with your shoe choice. I've still neglected my responsibility to compile a list so future packings could be made easy. Have fun in the Americas! It'll be a blast for sure, and I think you would have achieved travelling over more than half the continents of the globe.

  24. How exciting! Where in the States are you going? Let me know if you visit California – I'll make you some suggestions for San Francisco or Los Angeles :)

By the way, it' was -5 degrees in Berlin when I left!

  28. Shoes are always an issue! Deciding which ones are the most comfortable, the prettiest or the most resistant... First world problems, I know, but still... Ahah. Envy is eating my heart out right now, because I've never been in South America but it must be such a fantastic place to explore :) Safe trip! x
