In my bag

Here's the what's in my bag post that I've been meaning to do since the beginning of the year! It's more what's-in-my-bag-when-I'm-on-the-wards-and-I've-left-most-things-in-my-locker. Most female doctors and med students carry a little cross-body bag, because the pockets in women's clothes are pathetic (I'm sure it's part of a larger conspiracy to make us buy bags). This one is from Fossil (the Sydney crossbody), I picked it up in Macy's in San Francisco last year knowing that I'd need something like it, and it hasn't let me down yet.

  • Diary for my endless to-read-up-on lists. This one is from Muji, I really like the format.
  • Various promotional pens. I will sign up to anything if you give me a free pen (black ink and clicky please).
  • Muesli bar. I'm always hungry and they're easy to steathily cram into my mouth. I'm addicted to these Carman's ones.
  • My boring black stethoscope that I'm half hoping I'll lose or break so I have an excuse to buy another one in a fun colour. Why was I so boring in first year?
  • Lip balm and phone (with dodgy ebay phone case).
Of course, I've forgotten things. Like my car keys (I don't like to leave them in my locker, in case I need to make a fast escape) and emergency coffee money.

  2. I'm always curious to see what others are carrying in their bags. Nice to see that you keep your contents down to essentials only!

    1. Yep, it gets too awkward if I've got a big bulky bag on me on ward rounds and stuff.

  3. That bag is lovely, I'm impressed it can fit so much! I always carry an emergency snack bar too :)

    1. It does fit more than expected, it has two compartments too so things don't get all mixed up.

  4. Wow, I never would've guessed you could fit so much stuff in there! I'm totally with you on the conspiracy by the way. There's nothing more annoying that when pants have ridiculously shallow pockets or worse, finding out they're actually fake...

  5. Black goes with everything :D I've been on the fence about Fossil's design (another blogger I read has the larger version of this bag) and I really like yours as well--I'm just :/ about the thin strap. It doesn't cut into your shoulder after a while?

    1. Hm the strap has never really bothered me! What I carry isn't very heavy though.

  8. I definitely think the pocket thing is a conspiracy to make us buy bags! Saying that, I really love your bag and I'm definitely on the lookout for something similar. Your dairy looks like it's the perfect size! x

  15. Absolutely loving the bag and the phone case! Nice to go simple, right? Heavy bags which a bunch of items that I have to lug around everywhere is a no for me.

From the photos to the design... your blog is so lovely!

  16. Oh this is so interesting! I love your spin on the What's-In-Your-Bag trend! My mom, a nurse, keeps this kind of stuff in her bag too although hers is more antiquey and floral-y hahah! Great post-thank you for sharing!

  17. Knowing you carry your stethoscope around made my day :) I have never known anyone who would carry one in her bag

  18. I'm a bit of a nosy person, so I love seeing what's in other people's bags :P I used to carry around granola bars, but knowing me I eat it up right away. I need to get a small crossbody like yours - I've been meaning to for the past few months since I hate carrying around a huge bag that's mostly empty, but it's what I have.

(not sure if this posted the first time, so sorry if it's a duplicate comment!)

  21. carrying a stethoscope - how cool is that?! seriously

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think the black stethoscope looks so cool and classic and almost a bit scandinavian design ish (but then again, I find everything black/minimalistic/sleek a bit scandinavian design......). This is cool. I'm way to fussy to actually put only the things I need into bags nowadays - and pack waaaay to much. :')

  23. So cool you have a stethoscope in there! I also really like the phone case!! I always enjoy these types of posts. Great bag too by the way! I'm always lugging around a rucksack, hardly very chic. xx

  24. the whole no pockets thing is definitely a bullshit conspiracy! though even if all my clothes had pockets i'd still use a bag cause i tend to carry about too much crap. but seriously, i just bought a coat and it has pocket detailing but they're completely sewn shut! i bet men never have that problem. why bother making it look like it has pockets and not just put pockets in the coat?! rude.

  25. No one over here seems to carry a bag on the wards - which is really annoying because we still don't have pockets either! I end up trying to somehow fit everything into a little clipboard... or make friends with the nurses so they give me the code to the staff locker rooms so I can hide my big bag somewhere!
I went for a raspberry pink stethoscope thinking no one else would so I could always identify mine...about half my year has the same one!
