I'd heard mixed things about Fes before going. People had said it was unfriendly and overwhelming. But it's also one of the more important cities of Morocco historically, so I was looking forward to it. Most significantly, the old town, called Fes el Bali, is the largest medina in the country, and apparently the biggest car-free urban area in the world.

A view of the medina. They did say it was big!

The royal palace.

Door goals.

The medina is actually wild inside, it's hard to get pictures to reflect it (or good picture at all). Narrow laneways, crowds and crowds of people, almost accidentally walking into camel heads hanging from butcher stalls, donkeys carrying loads ruthlessly pushing you out of the way if you don't move over quickly.

The tanneries, where the leather is dyed.

I cannot for the life of me remember what this place was, even though it was my favourite we saw that day.

Goddamn, I love tiles.

All in all seeing the medina of Fes is pretty exhausting! But worth it.
